Chatham County forms the southern part of the Durham-Chapel Hill, NC Metropolitan area and is west of Wake County. The county seat is Pittsboro. Towns in Chatham County include part of Cary, part of Chapel Hill, Goldston, Pittsboro, Siler City, and part of Apex.
Industrial growth in the county is focused around the Siler City and Moncure areas. Companies in that area include Progress Energy, Boise Cascade, Honeywell, and Arauco. Arts-related tourism is a growing economic influence. Chatham County has a tradition in southern music and holds a four-day outdoor festival twice a year, in April and October at Shakori Hills.
There are three public high schools in the Chatham County School System and three public charter schools (all charter schools are public). Central Carolina Community College has two campuses in Chatham County. The county provides only part of the funding for K-12 and community college, but it devotes a considerable amount of its resources to public education; at times, there has been as much as 39% of the county’s tax dollars going to education.
Chatham County, like other parts of the Triangle region, is growing rapidly. In general, the market in that county is localized into four zones that run north to south starting near Jordan Lake and heading west. Each zone offers interesting opportunities and trade-offs.
