Just a thirty-minute drive from Wake Forest is Falls Lake, a 12,410-acre reservoir, offering a place for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Falls Lake State Recreation Area is a North Carolina state park with hiking and mountain bike trails as well as places for camping and spotting wildlife. E. Carroll Joyner Park is one of the largest parks in Wake County with three miles of paved walking trails, a 1,000-lawn-seat amphitheater, a performance area, and a garden. There are also restored farm buildings, a pecan grove, a restored log cabin, and places to have a picnic complete with charcoal grills.
